How it works
Drop in any week
No cohort and no start date. Join the week you need it, skip the weeks you don’t.
Bring your own questions
Your questions come first: the interval you keep getting wrong, the cadence you can’t picture on paper, the past-paper question that made no sense. When they run out, I teach a Grade 5 topic.
Worked through on screen
Every answer is shown step by step with interactive exercises on screen. Afterwards you can practise the same kind of question yourself, so it sticks.
Camera optional
Ask out loud or type your question in the chat. You don’t need to be on camera.
What to bring
- Any Grade 5 theory question you’re stuck on, from a textbook, workbook or past paper
- The topic that always trips you up, e.g. intervals, cadences, transposition or keys
- Questions you’ve guessed at, even ones you got right
- Manuscript paper or a notebook, if you like to write things out
- No questions yet? Come anyway. Other people’s questions are often yours too, and when the questions run out I teach a Grade 5 topic.
Put your questions in order. How many questions each person gets to ask depends on how many people come that week. List yours most important first, so the one that matters most gets answered.
How it fits with your preparation
- 1
Study the way you already do
With a textbook, a teacher, past papers or our online trainers. The live class works alongside any of them.
- 2
Note what doesn’t make sense
The question you got wrong and can’t see why, or the rule that never quite clicked.
- 3
Ask on Thursday
Bring it to the live class and see it worked through, step by step.
- 4
Practise until you’re ready
Close the gap with practice questions and mock papers. Book the exam when your mocks agree, not before.
Frequently asked questions
- When is the live class?
- Every Thursday, 17:30–18:15 UK time. The page shows the next session in your own time zone.
- Do I have to come every week?
- No. It’s a drop-in: there’s no cohort and nothing to keep up with. Come when you have questions.
- Who is it for?
- Anyone preparing for ABRSM Grade 5 Music Theory, adult learners and younger students alike, however you’re studying. You don’t need to use our trainers to come along.
- Will all my questions be answered?
- It depends on how many people attend that week, because everyone gets a turn. Bring your questions in order of importance, most important first. Anything we don’t reach, bring back next Thursday.
- What does it cost?
- The next class, on Thursday 29 October, is free: just reserve a place. After that, as an introductory offer, the live class is included in Learner Basic at £7.99 a month. Subscribe for a month and you get 4–5 classes (one every Thursday), plus unlimited practice exams, the Skill Builder and the video lessons as they’re released. If you’d rather not subscribe, a single session costs £6.99.
- Will I be on camera?
- Only if you want to be. You can ask your questions in the chat instead.
- Is there an exam date I’m working towards?
- No. Grade 5 theory is an online exam you book whenever you’re ready. The live class is there to help you get to that point. Practise until your mock papers say you’re ready, then book.
