Why this beats past papers
Past papers are where most people start, and they have real limits:
- They run out. There are only a few official papers. Once you’ve done them, a second attempt mostly tests your memory.
- Many free PDFs are out of date. Grade 5 theory is now sat online, and papers from the old written exam have different question types.
- An answer key doesn’t teach. It tells you what’s right, not why your answer was wrong.
Here every practice paper is new, it follows the digital exam item by item, every mistake is explained, and your marks are tracked by section. Keep the official papers for a final check close to exam day.

Frequently asked questions
- Are these ABRSM Grade 5 theory past papers?
- No. ABRSM publishes only a few official practice papers. These practice exams are modelled on the digital exam, with the same seven sections, item order and 75-mark total, but the questions are newly generated each time. That means you never run out of papers, and a good mark can’t come from remembering the answers.
- Is there a free ABRSM Grade 5 theory mock exam?
- Yes. Create a free account to sit one full mock paper with explanations. You can also take a 10-minute exam-ready check without an account. Basic (£7.99/month) unlocks unlimited mocks with fresh questions every time.
- Is there a free Grade 5 theory practice test?
- Yes. The 10-minute readiness check covers all seven sections with no account, and gives you a Ready / Almost / Not yet result and a practice plan.
- Are there exercises for single topics, like intervals or chords?
- Yes. There are exercises for every part of the paper: rhythm, clefs, keys and scales, intervals, chords and cadences, terms and signs, and music in context. Each of the 30 subsections has its own trainer, and every wrong answer is explained.
- How is the mock exam marked?
- Automatically. Timed mocks give a mark out of 75 and a grade on the ABRSM scale: 50 to pass, 60 for merit, 65 for distinction. Practice mode explains each answer as you go.
- Can I track progress?
- Yes. Mocks and drills feed a readiness overview by section. Students and parents can see it on the dashboard, and teachers see it for every student, with the next practice task ready to assign.
