For self-learners and adult learners

Pass Grade 5 theory on your own — and know you’re ready before you book

Self-study works until you hit the question nobody can answer for you. Was that wrong, and why? Are you ready? The mocks and trainers answer both, every time you practise.

Modelled on the ABRSM Grade 5 digital exam. Not official ABRSM papers, and not affiliated with ABRSM.

Sound familiar?

No one to check your work

A textbook answer key says what’s right. It doesn’t say why yours was wrong.

Limited practice papers

Once you’ve done the few official sample papers, you’ve run out of honest tests.

When are you ready?

Booking too early wastes the fee. Waiting too long kills the momentum.

What you get: mock exams, trainers and tracking

Unlimited realistic mocks

Full papers in the digital exam’s order, 60 items and 75 marks, with fresh questions every time. Browse one with explanations as you go, or sit it timed for a pass / merit / distinction grade.

Every mistake explained

When you train a section and get something wrong, you see the reasoning step by step, like a teacher looking over your shoulder.

Trainers for every question type

Section trainers for rhythm, clefs, keys, intervals, chords, terms and music in context, plus a drill for each of the 30 subsections of the paper. Practise only what you need.

Track your own progress

Every mock and drill updates your readiness by section on your dashboard. You stop practising what you already know, and you can see yourself getting closer to the pass.

Three ways to practise

Train one section at a time

A trainer for each of the 30 paper subsections, from time signatures to music in context. Get something wrong and the system explains why, step by step, then gives you another one.

Walk through a complete paper in exam order and answer as you go. Each explanation appears straight away, so it’s a guided tour of the exam, not a test.

Take it under exam conditions

Sit a timed paper with explanations held back until the end. You get a mark out of 75 and a pass / merit / distinction grade, just like exam day.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need Grade 5 theory for Grade 6–8?
For ABRSM Grades 6–8 practical exams you need Grade 5 Music Theory, Grade 5 Practical Musicianship, or a Grade 5 solo Jazz exam. Most candidates take theory.
How long does it take to prepare on my own?
It depends on where you start. The free 10-minute check tells you which sections are already secure. Many adult learners with practical experience need weeks rather than months.
Can I cancel after I pass?
Yes. Basic is monthly and you can cancel anytime from your dashboard.
